Another 60 school houses
NZPA Wellington The building of another 60 houses this year for teachers in rural areas has been ap r proved by the Minister of Education (Mr Wellington).
This will mean 30 new houses for each of the primary and secondary sectors throughout New Zealand, Mr Wellington said that each school involved would have the option ,of having a house or a double unit built. “I see .the provision of adequate housing : ,in such areas as one of the most effective meaps of attracting staff: The 'country service housing scheme is an incentive to teachers to serve in rural areas where private rental accommodation .is usually limited,”- Mr Wellington said. ’ The stock of departmental assistant teacher houses now stands at 1670 units.
Mr Wellington said- that a further programme of housing would be considered in 1981-82 having regard to the over-all adequacy of teacher accommodation, in rural areas. ■ ; ■■
