Nesting place of white heron

Sir, — Your correspondent,. A. Gilbert, should have no trouble shifting 30,000 West Coasters away from the Coast; in “The Press,” on Wednesday he shifted the Waitangiroto River a mile or two to the south (somehow getting it across morainic ridges) and changed its outlet from the sea beach north of Waitahi Bluff to the Okarito lagoon on the south. The Waitangitaona River, even further to the north should not pose any problem either. Probably the white herons do not like having their environment played around with like this, which is why .they frequent the Hokitika sewage ponds these days. These are right beside the main road so we, will be able to keep an eye on both the ponds and the birds for Mr Gilbert. — Yours, etc., ,' • ANNETTE KERR, Greymouth. July 16, 1980.
