Essex Hospital closing

Sir, — Mrs Pearson (July 15) said that women are reporting “constant overtones of getting patients through 'as quickly as possible” and “I am totally exhausted after my stay at Christchurch Women’s Hospital with such an atmosphere.” I have been a patient in Ward 7 of Christchurch Women’s Hospital from July 7 until July 15, coming for, and recovering from the birth of my second child. I have found the care excellent in all respects, the atmosphere calm and relaxing and the staff kind, sympathetic and only too happy and able to sit and discuss any problems I have had. With regard to duration of stay, I have decided to go today, but have been asked several times, if I would like to stay longer. The three extra beds on the balconies mentioned,. I have not yet seen fully occupied, and. for most of my stay only one patient was there with accompanying screens. — Yours, etc., JAN HENDERSON. July 15, 1980.
