Shop workers meet
PA Auckland Auckland .retail workers condemned the Government’s Saturday trading legislation and called for-its withdrawal at a mass meeting in the Auckland Town Hall yesterday morning. Shops and businesses were left light on staff as workers decided to.strike for the rest of the day. The 2000 workers at the meeting were in 'no mood to accept the legislation. When
the recommendation to strike was first mentioned they applauded loudly, and onlv a handful of speakers opposed the recommendation. When they did, they were heckled and slow handclapped in some cases. The meeting of butchers, grocery assistants and retail assistants was the first of a series throughoutout New Zealand. A meeting will be held in Christchurch on Thursday.
