High prices for dogs
PA Gora Heading and lambing dogs realised an average price ot $646 on the first day of the twentythird annual sale of collies at Gore.
Tiie catalogue included 99 heading dogs, but withdrawals and delays to other entries by weather up country reduced the number to (17. Sales made at auction or reported later totalled 57. and the realisation for the day was $36,825. The gross return to vendors on the opening day of last year’s sale was $44,668. Sales then numbered 67 among 111 dogs offered, and the average of $668 set a record. Over the two days of last year’s fixture an average price of $647 was set for heading dogs. Top price yesterday was $1550, paid to M. Cromb, of Kelso, by A. Eason, of Owaka, for a 20 month old heading dog which in this trials season has progressed from maiden to open class. The record price for the sale Is $2lOO. established last year. Second top money of $150(1 was received by N. of Crookston.
N. Timms, of Te Anau, sold three dogs at an average pries of $1033.
