Maria Dee dead

Maria Dee, a useful Southland racemnre a few seasons ago, ’has died after producing on’v one foal, a Beaufort Sea filly. The rising 10-year-old Roval Ridge-Our Susie mare died two weeks ago from a ruptured bowel caused by an ulcer which developed’in an intestine.
Maria Dee won seven races and was placed 14 times when trained by Rex Cochrane for her Mataura
owners, Mr and Mrs O. D. Allison. She was one of the: horses to set the leading South Island jockey Jim Coi-’ lett off as an apprentice: she ; was one of his regular; mounts when he began his' riding career and was noted' for her strong, late runs ini her races. “The vets did everything for her,’* said Mrs Allison yesterday. “She had shown signs of being unwell for five weeks but her condition was hard to diagnose as the; complaint was internal.”
