Twelve to contest first $1M race
By W. R. CARSTON i ■ ■ i The 14-horse field, including two emergencies, for the world’s first-ever $1 million race for three-year-old pacers was announced yesterday. The one mile event, to be run at the Meadowlands Raceway, New Jersey, at 2.20 p.m. (N.Z. time) on Saturday, will be televised live and the New Zealand Totalisator Agency Board will run win, place, and quinella betting on the race. One runner among the 12 assured of a start in the race has close ties with New Zealand: Maple Fritz, is out of Miss Step, a daughter of False Step and the Dillon Hall mare Interlace. Interlace was one of the few mares covered by False Step before the treble New Zealand Cup winner was taken to compete in an
