Two gear for Coast arrives
Greymouth reporter Microwave equipment to relay the Network Two programme from Nelson to the West Coast has arrived in New Zealand from Italy and the Broadcasting Corporation still aims to have the second channel available to Coast viewers by the end of the year, .the chairman of the ’corporation (Mr lan Cross) has said in Greymouth. “Now the equipment is in the country we have a 90 per cent chance of staying on schedule,” he said. In addition the corporation
was aware that with complementary planning for the two channels these were both necessary for viewers.
Mr Cross said there had been an instant reaction to the switch of the “Top of the Morning” programme to Network Two, with complaints from West Coast and other one-only viewers. The director-general and he had heard of the reaction and the programme would be slotted back to One before noon on Saturdays, starting early in August. “We are also applying to the Broadcasting Tribunal for a warrant for an extension of TVI coverage by an hour in the morning to service One-only areas,” Mr Cross said.
This was aimed at providing programmes for adults in view of the children’s afternoon programmes.
“We are aware of the difficulties TVI areas are facing. That’s why we are anxious to keep to the schedule for the West Coast,” Mr Cross said.
