Illegal bottle collecting

Many amatuer bottle collectors may be breaking the. law by disturbing protected archaeological sites. The.; Historic Places Trust says it is unlawful to distun) a 100-year-old archaeological site without a permit from the trust. Its senior archaeologist (Mr J. McKlnlay) is worried about the increasing camage to important archaeological sites. Mr McKinlay says the number of bottle collectors throughout New Zealand is increasing rapidly and so is the damage to many old sites.

Collectors will be required to keep away from important nineteenth century settlement sites, but the trust will issue permits for collectors to go on less important sites.
