Plane has trouble
Emergency services stood by at Christchurch Airport
yesterday for the landing of a Piper Cherokee which had diverted from Greymouth with undercarriage problems. The aircraft had been on its way from. Westport to Greymouth with four persons aboard when the pilot found he could not get an “undercarriage down” indication on his instrument panel, said a spokesman for
air traffic control Christchurch.
The pilot decided to head for Christchurch and the Fire Service, police, and airport crash services were alerted just after 4.30 p.m. The pilot had finally been able to get an ‘‘undercarriage down” indication as he approached Christchurch and the single-engined aircraft had touched down safely at 4.55 p.m. the spokesman said.
