Jackpot shared
Two Trentham patrons showed the judgment or had the luck to select the winners of all five jackpot races on Saturday. The successful pot hunters were Messrs Mike Murphy, of Manurewa, and James Wilson, of Palmerston North, who received $56,381.65 each. The club’s jackpot was not struck on the first and second days of the meeting and the pool was swelled by close to $107,000 in just over two hours on
Saturday morning. After the first two jackpot races, which were won by Abendigo and the hot favourite County Cork, there were still 2402 “live” tickets but wins by Sparkling Brew and Gatcombe at the expense of the favourites in the Riddiford Steeples and Winter Oats brought dramatic changes in the situation. The final leg, the Wellington Hurdles, was won easily by the favourite, Mr Hickey.
