Verdict of theft

After deliberating for five hours, a jury in the High Court last evening found an accountant, Reginald Terence Ryder, guilty on three charges of theft of $60,457 by misappropriation and on six charges of the fraudulent use of cheques to the value of more than $3OOO. Mr Justice Casey remanded Ryder, aged 38, in custody to June 27 for sentence. .

Ryder was found not guilty on eight charges of the fraudulent use of. cheques. Messrs G. K. Panckhurst and B. M. Stanaway appeared for the Crown during the nine-day trial and Messrs P. G. S. Penlington, Q.C., and J. G. Matthews appeared for Ryder, who pleaded not guilty to all 17 charges.
