Campaign leaflet

PA Wellington The Combined State Unions and the Federation of Labour have joined forces to publicise their campaign for a better standard of living. They are distributing a leaflet, “A Decent Living, A Decent Law ” which demands immediate compensation for increases in the cost of living and replacement of the Remuneration Act by new wage-fixing procedures which incorporate cost-of-living adjustments into wages.

It backgrounds food, heating, and clothing increases over the last 12 months which made up the March, 1980, consumers price index increase of 18.4 per cent. The pamphlet urges repeal of the Remuneration Act so that general wage orders can be fixed before the courts rather than special tribunals suggested by the Government. A manual for delegates involved in the campaign has also been released. It gives deeper background of the issues.
