Timber shortage
PA Wellington A shortage of timber for both export and domestic markets is worrying sawmillers and a deputation from the Samillers’ Federation called on the Minister of Forests (Mr V. S. Young) to discuss methods of a more equitable distribution of what wood is available.'
At present timber is sold jn its raw state to
sawmillers by tender, but with supplies dwindling in the short term some sawmillers could miss out. The president of the Federation (Mr L. M. Gillions) said his organisation wanted to ensure a continuity of supply to members. Alternative selling methods were being look-
ed at, he said, such as auctioning and allocation.
