Guerrillas killed in clash

Israeli troops and Palestinian guerrillas from Jordan i clashed on the border south of the Dead Sea at the week-end.
Reports of casualties conflicted: in Damascus, the Palestine Liberation Organisation said that the guerrillas killed a number of Israelis for the loss of two of their forces; in Tel Aviv, the Israeli Army said it killed two out of three Palestinian raiders but suffered no losses itself.
The two sources agreed that the clash occurred near the Israeli settlement of Neat Hakikar south of the Dead Sea.
The Palestinians said they ambushed an Israeli convoy and when additional Israeli troops arrived a three-hour battled ensued. The Israelis said that the Palestinians were spotted by a border patrol and pursued back across the border into Jordan. Guerrilla raids across the Jordanian border , have been comparatively rare since King Hussein of Jordan expelled Palestinian commandos in September, 1971. The Israeli Prime Minister (Mr Menachem Begin) told the Israeli Cabinet later that to the best of Israel’s knowledge, the Jordanian Government had no prior information about the raid and continued to prohibit guerrilla activity against Israel from its. territory. ;Mr Begin also said yesterday that he may send. his top negotiator to Washington this week' to discuss a date for resuming-the Palestinian autonomy' talks broken off last month by Egypt.
