Australian miners ease
At the end of a hectic week of trading the Australian stock market closed slightly easier, but oil and mining shares mainly consolidated their earlier advances.
The market leader, BHP, added’ 15c to reach $14.70 and allowing,for bonus and other-issues'iti the past ten years—the. price set an alltime <’ high;- according to chartists. Gold miners Central Norseman, ' 10c to 900 c, and Emperor 3c to 208 c, advanced, but profit taking cut back other. gold miners. G. M. kKalgoorlie lost 12c to 682 c, Poseidon dropped 20c to 355 c, Peko fell 10c to 810 c, and Bougainville eased 6c to 255 c. Ashton was 2c higher at 275 c, and North Kalgoorlie rose 2c : to 160 c. Oils were also the target of selling .pressure: Woodside lost 11c to 307, Southern Pacific 100 c to $22.00, and Santos 10c at $14.60. Ampol Exploration eased 5c to 265 c, AOD was 4c off at 80c, Offshore dropped 4c to 40c, and Strata was 1c easier at 68c. Bridge moved ahead 3c to 428 c, Vamgas gained 10c to 670 c, and Crusader Oil added 5c at 375 c. Most falls came on modest turnovers which left the minerals sector in a generally bullish mood. In the industrials,. C$R fluctuated through the day but ended 2c firmer at 666 c, and ICI rose 2c at 227c.' Retailers . were steady; Myer at 157 c, arid Coles at • 195 c were 2c firmer.
