Donations for case
A Christchurch garage owner, Mr Eric Sides, has received donations amounting to more than $lOOO in support of his legal wrangle with the Human Rights Commission. The commission is taking a case to the Equal Opportunities Tribunal against Mr Sides, his garage, “The Press,” and the “Christchurch Star” about an advertisement for a “Christian petrol attendant.” Mr Sides said last evening that a donation of $2OO
from an Invercargill person yesterday had pushed the sum received over $lOOO. Although he. had received about 10 big donations, most of the money had come from people giving about $2 to $3 to support him, Mr Sides said. He is still waiting for news from the Justice Department about the timing of the case before the tribunal “This may be as far away as two or three months,” he said.
