Historic building change
Use of the old building leased to the Canterbury: Chamber of Commerce —for-, mer Christchurch City Council chambers — may be reviewed in eight years. The historic building, at the intersection of Worcester Street and Oxford Terrace, has the Canterbury Information Centre (former Public Relations Office) as a tenant. It is also used for meetings and other functions by community groups. At a meeting of the council’s housing and property committee yesterday, the Town-Clerk (Mr J. H. Gray), mentioned that the building was a valuable council asset j in a strategic place. When the present lease! expired in 1988, the council! might want to consider other uses of the building to meet community needs, Mr Gray said. Cr N. G. Hattaway said the building was already well used by many groups. ,
