Bed drop ‘unrealistic’
The Health Department is unrealistic in expecting the; North Canterbury Hospital ' Board to reduce the number, of long-stay beds in its area, the chairman of the board’s finance committee (Mr C. F, Whitty) has said. The board has been told that before it can expect money for new and extra: services next year it must! submit a plan on how it might reduce the numbers of long-stay beds. j “This is not realistic, especially as we have a growing region and national , responsibility for beds in a number of health disciplines,” Mr Whitty said.
