Police move pickets
The police were called to the , construction site of Shades Tavern in Cashel Street, Christchurch, yesterday after a group of about 30 . picketers prevented owner-drivers working for Musgrove Bros, Ltd, from using; the site., ’ j . Striking Musgrove work-i res and some trade, union officials formed the picket I line across the site entrance after earlier holding a meet-1 ing at the Trade Union Centre. I One owner-driver whose' truck was on the site was prevented from, moving his truck, and the police were called about 9.30 a.m. They warned the picketers that they could be arrested for; Obstructing the trucks from access to and from the site. The pitketers held ; meeting and decided to comply with thepolice directives. The picketers left the site about but then decided; to continue picketing while allowing access to the site. . -
The Canterbury Trades COuneil has imposed a black i ban on the. company over a' redundancy, dispute. A Musgrove excavator is working on the site, operated by a shareholder-man-ager of the company. It is servicing four of the company’s trucks driven by i Owner-drivers. ,
