Beggs, Bishop in form?
i A three-year winning sequence in the Canterbury mixed foursomes golf championship ended last year for Dennis Beggs and Sue Bishop when they could, finish no better than fifth. However, they might well resume their winning way at Windsor tomorrow in the last of the provincial major events. This season Beggs has i shown glimpses of the form that earned him a place in ' the Canterbury Freyberg team for three successive years (1975-77) and he con- i firmed that he was back to
his best with a record-break-ing round of 69 at Windsor on Wednesday. Mrs Bishop has victories in “The Press’’ tournament, the Canterbury stroke cham-; pionship and the provincial women’s foursomes this ' year. In ■ combination with : Beggs, she should have another important victory. The strong combination of ] Fred Poskitt and his wife, Nerolie, from Waimairi Beach, were , clear-cut win- , ners of the championship • last year and wilT command : respect again. An interesting' pairing!
from Russley is the Canterbury men’s stroke champion, Bruce Taylor, and the women’s match-play titleholder, Adrienne Bond. They are an accomplished couple. Barry Walsh and Nan Mann and George Turner and Diane Ritchie are capable combinations which should be prominently placed. Two of Canterbury's leading amateurs, Geoff Saunders and Murray, Brown, have entered. But they will be in the junior section partnered by their wives.
