Very good lucerne crop in Mid-Canterbury
PA Ashburton The lucerne season in Mid-Canterbury has been one of the most successful for the Ashburton-based processor, Fletcher Lucerne. According to a newsletter to growers, the company shipped its first consignment of 7000 tonnes of lucerne stockfeed pellets to Japan in February. The pellets were from this season’s production. .In addition, it expects to progressively despatch 14,000 tonnes in ’two more shipments this month and July. The company says that it
intends to be back in the market —• mainly for lucerne hay — in the new season, which commences in October. However, it will still retain the capabilities to process “greenchop,” which utilises more fuel oil, when adverse' weather conditions cause there to be significant quantities' of it. The manager of Fletcher Lucerne (Mr Jeremy Lubeck) said in the newsletter that new pricing arrangements for the 1980-81 season will be announced in the middle of the year. There will again be incentives for contract growers.
