Moscow Olympics
Sir, — Now that the United States Olympic Committee has endorsed its decision to pull out of the Moscow Olympics while other nations are adopting a “waitand see” policy, the question the world is asking is: Will the Russian forces pull out of Afghanistan in a last bid to save the Games? The way I see it, asking the Russians to pull out of Afghanistan is like asking the deposed Shah to return to Iran to solve the hostages’ crisis. — Yours, etc., FRANKIE WONG. April 16, 1980. •“ Sir, — The Olympic Games planned for Moscow should be abandoned individually- and collectively now. Such so-called sport is overrated and outdated. We should remember Afghanistan and stay away from Russia. We need to support President Jimmy Carter and his allies now lest we be enslaved by the Russian bear. Now is the time to oppose Russia. Later may be too late.—Yours, etc., THOMAS HANNEN, Nelson. April 14, 1980.
