Art students stage ‘work-in’
Sixy fine arts students of the University of Canterbury have staged a “work-in” to protest against rules that they cannot work in the university art studio after 5.30 p.m. The students believe they should be allowed to work at the university until 11 p.m., when the library closes. They are required to leave the building at 5.30 p.m. unless they get permission from, the caretaker to stay until 8.30 p.m. The Vice-Chancellor of the university (Professor A. D. Brownlie) visited the fine arts studio and agreed to take the students’ demands to the head .of the fine arts department (Professor H. J. Simpson). The students also want to be allowed to work at the university during the weekend.
