Spaceman sorry at refusal
The chief training officer of the Russian space programme, LieutenantGeneral Vladimir Shatalov, has expressed his disappointment about the refusal of the New Zealand Government to grant him an entry visa. In a message to “Soviet News” in Wellington, he explained his reasons for wanting to come to New Zealand. The Government recently refused visas to a delegation from the Union of Soviet Friendship Societies. General Shatalov was to have been a member of the delegation.
“As a man who has been to outer space three times, I proposed to share my impressions of space flights and to try to describe, in particular, what a beautiful green oasis In the vast blue seas New Zealand looks like from outer space,” he said. “I also wanted to discuss with your specialists space exploration, this entirely new sphere of human activity that embraces a range of undertakings, from space photography to the establishment of human settlements in outer space.”
