Bid for freedom
A young man’s bid for freedom after being sen= tenced in the District Court to Borstal training was short-lived. The defendant, Kevin Gary Pyke, aged 21, a labourer, had been sentenced by Judge Paterson and was making his way from the dock to the holding cells when he tried to make off through th public gallery to the main door of the court. He was overpowered within a metre by three police officers on duty, handcuffed, and lodged in the cells. He had been convicted on charges of possessing an offensive weapon — a knife — and the theft of- property, valued at $422.
