Pathologist tells of injuries
PA ' Blenheim . The man and woman found dead near Kaikoura in February had deep, gaping cuts across their necks. The man’s head was almost severed, a Nelson Hospital pathologist, Matthew Stephen Clark, told the District Court at Blenheim yesterday. This evidence was given at the taking of depositions before Judge Headifen. Grenville Warren Boyles, aged 37, a shearer, is charged with the murder of Jane Sara Boyles and John McLeod Taylor at Hapuka on or about February 29. Mr Clark said the wounds on both bodies suggested
homicide rather than suicide, while the cuts on their hands suggested they had probably grasped a weapon in self-defence. Numerous superficial incised wounds were also on the body of John Taylor, while the body of Jane Boyles also had a stab wound in the upper chest, and this had lead to severe haemorrhaging, Mr Clark said. The accused was remanded in custody to May 14 to appear in the District Court at Blenheim for the remainder of depositions. Mr Clark’s evidence was taken yesterday as he was to be overseas at the time depositions had been set for.
