Fatal-fall inquiry by dept

Labour Department Investigators are looking into the possibility of a prosecution after an elderly woman’s fatal fall on Tuesday into an uncovered drain. The woman' fell into a sewer-sump hole in the d 'iveway of Avis Rent-a-Car, at 94 Gloucester Street.

The branch manager of Avis Rent-a-Car (Mr Graeme Orange) said that a plumber had taken the cover off to clear a blockage. The woman was Isabel Margaret Watson, aged 88, of 120 Park Terrace.

The Labour Department’s construction safety inspectors were still investigating the accident yesterday. The assistant district superintendent ,of the Labour Department (Mr G. D. Postlethwaite) said the inspectors’ report would be sent to head office “with a recommendation to prosecute or otherwise."
