Manslaughter guilty verdict

PA Nelson A 23-year-old Motueka concrete worker was found guilty of manslaughter by a jury in the High Court at Nelson yesterday. Gregory Leonard Raumati had pleaded not guilty to striking Richard Manuhira Tansley, also known as Manu Scia Scia on the night of August 16 last year and thereby killing him. Mr Justice O’Regan remanded Raumati in custody until 9.30 a.m. tomorrow.

Raumati was represented by Mr A. E. Webber, of Nel son. The Crown prosecutoi was Mr C. J. McGuire, oi Wellington. The jury reached its verdict after a retirement ol about 52 minutes. The Crown’s case was that Scia Scia died from brain damage and complications as a result of being assaulted by Raumati. Evidence from 28 people was presented to the jury.
