Ground rentals
Sir, —Re the report of the Canterbury Rugby. Union’s meeting about ground rentals (“The Press,” April 9): If 18 players use a ground for three practices and one game a week .for 16 weeks the players pay 10 cents per use, or 40 cents per week. In many sports- the cost to the individual is much more than 10 cents per use. Surely the Rugby Union must realise that the. charges for all sports should . bear comparison, especially those that cater for all members of the community, not just those who are privileged to be. physically fit or are the right age group or the right sex. There are many examples of sports organisations helping themselves; the people responsible for the netball grounds in South Hagley Park are an outstanding example. A practical approach is needed based on two criteria (1) Help yourself if you want-others to help you. (2) The user must pay.—Yours, etc DOUG CAIN. April 10, 1980.
