Use of bottles
Sir, — Further to discussions with the general manager of" Southern Bottlers, Ltd (Mr M. J. Jemison), I wish to apologise for misinformation used in my letter (April 12), I stated that the one litre Coca-Cola bottles used are not reusable, but can only be broken for cullet. I was, in fact, referring to the 1.25 litre bottle, to which my remarks still apply. Also, although the one litre bottle is reusable, it is manufactured with a screw top rather than a crown top. These tops make the bottle difficult to reuse, and often result in breakages at the reprocessing plant. So, although they are more convenient for the consumer, these bottles (which are not as yet available in the South Island) are still wasteful of resources. —Yours, etc., HELEN CRABB; April 13, 1980.
