Taihape brawl
PA Wanganui Sticks and bars were used in a clash between policemen and about 20 young people in Taihape early on Saturday ingSix men and two women Were arrested. The confrontation came after a car being followed by the police stopped outside a house where a party was being held. The police said the clash lasted for more than 15 minutes but the 12 policemen took more than an
hour to get the partygoers under control. The armed offenders souad from Wanganui was called about 12.30 a.m. to help deal with the incident. The police car had its windows smashed, dashboard wrecked and panels badly dented. The radio was destroyed. Two policemen suffered minor bruising, as did two of those arrested.
The police said last evening that the incident “was somewhat out of the ordinary. It is not the sort of thing one would expect in Taihape.” -
