But the Attorney-General (Mr McLay) is still waiting for the views of Mr Thomas’s solicitors on the proposed terms of reference for the inquiry.

He .expects to get these this week. Mr Muldoon said the question of the Government’s meeting Mr Thomas’s legal costs for the inquiry had not been considered at this stage, and no. request for this had so far been received from his solicitors.

The question of legal costs was one which .the commission could consider when it considered ! the question of compensation, Mr McLay told N.Z.P.A.

. He expected the commission to begin work about six to eight weeks after its membership and terms of reference were announced.
