U.S.-bred stallions for Taranaki

Special correspondent Wanganui Two American-bred stallions by the internationally renowned sire, Hoist The Flag, arrived in New Zealand over Easter for delivery to south Taranaki. The sires are Jubilee Wine and the grey Silver Blaze, which are currently in quarantine at Wellington. Jubilee Wine (Hoist The Flag — Royal Dowry, by Royal Charger) will be based at Mr Jim Norman’s stud at Manutahi and Silver Blaze (Hoist The Flag — Diamond Watch,. by Crafty Admiral) will stand at Mr Peter McKenzie’s nearby property. The stallions, which will be based within 2500 m of each other, are the first sons of Hoist the Flag to stand at stud in either Australia or New Zealand, according to Mr McKenzie.

Diamond Watch is from Silver Smoke, by the English Derby winner Mahmoud from Eastern Pageant, a full sister to the English St Leger winner Eastern Monarch,

Silver Blaze, which was racing this last season, had his career thwarted through a leg injury, nevertheless, he produced two wins and four placings fro meight appearances in New York.
