The Minister of Local Government (Mr Highet) makes a point to the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay) during a Mayoral reception in the Town Hall last evening for Ministers attending the annual conference of localgovernment Ministers from Australia and New Zealand. With them is the Minister of Local Government for Western Australia (Mrs June Craig). Ministers, senior localgovernment officers, and local-goveriiment association representatives from both countries are meeting in Christchurch.
Subjects expected to be discussed at the conference include the extent ,of 1 o c a 1-govemment involvement in commercial activities, local-authority borrowing and health and welfare issues.
