Mellseur shows her paces
Mellseur gave a lift to the restricted amount of training on the No. 6 grass at Riccarton yesterday with a brief display of her high turn of speed. She was at three-quarter pace from the 1400 m to the 600 m, but lengthened stride fluently from there and finished her task impressively in 39.65.
Mellseur will run in the $20,000 George Adams Handicap on the third day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting next Saturday. Lucky Chance made ground strongly to draw up to the northerner Easter Parade finishing 600 m in 38.65.
Both won at the Nelson Jockey Club’s meeting, and Lucky Chance might represent the Ray Harris stable with credit in the Champagne Stakes next Saturday. Timber Wolf, another Champagne Stakes hopeful, sprinted in from the 600 m in 40.65. He is a winner from the Ivil stable at Awapuni, and will lend plenty of North Island interest to Saturday’s race. Ashnelle appeared to act well in the conditions while running 600 m in 39.85/ Our Queen followed in 40.55. Silver Sari recorded Imin
24.4 s for 1200 m, and 42.2 s for the last 600 m.
