Raft race safety
New safety guidelines for raft races will be drawn up by the Water Safety Council. The decision to draw up the guidelines follows a recent drowning in the Hull River near Wellington.
Organisers of raft races had to take responsibility for the entrants, said the council's director (Mr M. Frohlich). Organisers should examine rafts before races to ensure that they were strong enough to handle the conditions. They;. had to be certain that everyone was a competent ■ swimmer., and wore a suitable lifejacket and - helinet : if necessary.l '
