Ashburton would see a partial eclipse, of.the planet -while 'people .north ;,of Ashburton would ? .see. a close . approach of the Moon but no eclipse. Mr Blow said that although the event was predicted to occur about 6.25 p.m. right- on sunset and about 45. minutes • after., the Mobri had risen, it should ..Still be visible through a binocular or small telescope to those watching the northern cusp of the Moon.
'He said that after the event, the Moon woilld slowly move eastwards, away from Jupiter but the two, togehter with the bright star, Regulus, and the planet, Mars, should remain a. / conspicuous grouping in the sky for the rest of the evening.
