The executive of the Can-J terbury Trades Council is op-| posed to the exchange of land! for favours, according to a| statement. The executive was commenting on a Saudi Arabian prince’s being granted Government permission to buy a farm in the Coromandel Peninsula in return for his assistance in arranging large loans for energy development in New Zealand. ' .
“It transgresses the fundamental principle of honesty and loyalty to New Zealand
in that without providing satisfactory answers, the Minister of Lands (Mr V. S. I Young) has allowed the act to be circumvented,” the Trades Council said. “This also brings us to the position of the undertakings given by the Minister ,of Trade (Mr Taiboys) to the West Germans that the New Zealand Government would get the trade unions under control ,so that there would be no opposition to the exploitation of our natural resources by foreign investors.”
