Disruption threat
PA Auckland New Zealand Farmers Fertiliser Company operations face industrial disruption from members of four unions if a relocation and redundancy dispute is not settled soon.
Representatives of clerical, storemen and packers, northern drug and chemical workers, and drivers’ unions have so far failed to reach agreement on relocation and redundancy facing 280 workers because of the impending closing of the pharmacy wholesale division of Kempthorne Medical Supplies. About 47 of the workers involved are in Auckland. The rest are in Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The closing of the division follows a company decision to dispose of an area it considered unprofitable as a result of a series of business take-overs and mergers. Pharmacy wholesale activities have also been .hit by chemists going into the cooperative wholesaling business in groups, a company spokesman said.
