Cricket umpiring
Sir, —I have known Fred Goodall all my life. I have watched Fred umpire many games at first-class level over nearly two decades. I have discussed some of the “highs” and “lows” he has experienced, with him. If Fred has ever made any “doubtful” decisions they have not been deliberate, biased or ill-considered. I want the West Indians to be told through your columns that Fred Goodall is one of the most impartial, fair, just, objective, non-partisan, neutral and unprejudiced men I know, particularly when deciding on an issue, whether it be cricket or any other matter. Croft’s attack on Fred was unforgivable. — Yours, etc., . D. B. HUTTON. February 26, 1980.
