Camp inferno: six charged
NZPA-Reuter Barcelona A legal investigation into the Spanish campsite disaster two years ago in which more than 200 holidaymakers were killed has laid charges of gross negligence against six Spanish executives, court officials have said. The officials said the judge investigating the disaster, in which a road tanker carrying inflammable gas exploded beside the crowded Los Alfaques campsite in eastern Spain, had completed his report and confirmed its provisional conclusions. The charges were laid
against two directors of the transport company, Cisternas Reunidas, which owned the tanker, and four employees of the State-con-trolled Enpetrol Company which owned the load of propylene gas. The two companies have paid a surety of 1.2 billion pesetas ($l7 million). The judicial report, almost 6000 pages long, will now be sent to the State prosecutor and to defence and private prosecution lawyers for them to prepare their case, the sources said. No date has been fixed for the trial.
