League players remanded
The New Zealand Rugby League second row forward and former captain, Anthony Peter Coll, aged 30, a fitter, pleaded not guilty to charges of theft and assault in the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth yesterday before Mr P. J. McAloon, S.M. Colin Keith Schafer, aged 26 a fitter, the vice-captain of Coll’s league club team, and also the West Coast hockey captain and a representative cricketer, pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft. Coll and Schafer were charged with stealing one sheet of building board, valued at $7, the property of Griffin and Smith, Ltd, at Greymouth on January 26. In addition, Coll was charged with assaulting Murray Edward Greenfield, with intent to facilitate escape after a theft. On the application of counsel, Mr A. J. G. Keenan, both were remanded for a defended fixture on April 16.
