NZPA-Reuter Port-of-Spain The Trinidad “Guardian” newspaper yesterday hailed the West Indies cricket team, for
their achievements in Australia but deplored their behaviour in New Zealand. “We do not think that the West Indies team, is doing our image any good service by their behaviour in New Zealand,” the “Guardian” said in a leading article. The newspaper said that the ability to win when the chips were down, the unprecedented triumph over Australia, and the emergence of the side as the strongest in the world were all being needlessly prejudiced by the reputation that the team now seemed bent on acquiring. “We know that sportsmen are expected to abide by the decision of umpires, judges, anti referees, and we are well aware that such arbiters are only human,” the “Guardian” said. “They may commit errors through incompetence, careless ness, inalertness, or bias, bul once their decisions are made known, it Is expected that all sportsmen will adhere to them, leaving any questioning of sucli decisions for subsequent consideration off the field of play.-'
