No-deposit bottles

Sir, — I must be one among thousands in Christchurch who abhor the introduction of another non-re-turnable bottle. I am really pleased to see the City Council up in arms over the matter and I wonder if they have the. power to ban the sale of such wasteful items. If the bottlers’ trucks can carry crates of full bottles to the retailers, they surely can carry the empties back. So let us go for returnables, up the deposit to make it worth it, and dispense with the “disposable” distributors. — Yours, etc., SHAUN NORMAN. February 20, 1980.
