©Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries HORTICULTURAL DEMONSTRATION BLOCK WAIPARA FIELD DAY FEBRUARY 28, 1980 The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries advisers and local farmers involved in the' Waipara Horticultural Demonstration Block will be holding a Field Day on February 28, 1980, commencing at 1.00 p.m. This block was planted in the winter and spring of 1579 with a range of crops selected to test the horticultural - possibilities of the Waipara climate. Crops that have been planted so far are— Citrus, grapes, kiwifruit, feijoas, blackcurrants, herbs, capsicums, melons, olives, walnuts, chestnuts and hazelnuts. Th® object of the Field Day is to. look at each of th® crops in turn, assessing growth rates and/or yield. Aspects on markets, marketing, soils, shelter, irrigation and .weed control will be discussed. Th® block is on Bruce Moore's farm which is on Highway 1, immediately north of the Glenmark Church. There will be signposts in place to show exactly where to go. The Field Day is open to all, farmers, growers, and townsfolk.
