Samoan lawyer to chair committee
PA Wellington: . 1 Mr Tuala Karanita Enan,!( a Western Samoan and a ; New Zealand-trained lawyer in private practice in West- 1 em Samoa, has agreed to be chairman of a committee 1 which will examine relation-: ships'between the South Pa-1 cific Commission and the: South Pacific Bureau for: Economic Co-operation. j Mr Enari, who has a wide! knowledge of regional af-i fairs, was nominated as chairman both by the S.P.C. Secretary-General ’ and the Director of S.P.E.C.. according to a statement from the commission. The committee was established as a result( of decisions taken last year by the South Pacific Forum and the South Pacific Conference.
Its six members will be drawn from American : Samoa, French Polynesia and the New Hebrides, representing the South Pacific Conference, and Australia, the Cook Islands and Solomon Islands, representing the South Pacific Forum. • i The committee will examline the agreements establish■ing S.P.C. and S.P.E.C., and I the two organisations’: work | programme, to ensure that (their responsibilities overlap las little as possible. It will also study ways in which the function of S.P.C. and S.P.E.C. can be modified for more effective use of the human and financial resources of the region. The. first meeting of the committee will take place in Apia; Western Samoa, this month. >
