National Party policy

Sir, —When I studied logic, I was warned to appreciate the difference between opinion and fact. Your correspondent, Mr Frank Freeman (December 24) gives his opinion that Mr Muldoon is competent in his capacity as Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Here are some of the facts. On the negative side we now have record inflation, a record in the rise in the cost of living for the last quarter, record unemployment except for the Great Depression, a record budget deficit due largely to pay for his brainchild, national superannuation, and now a dangerous fail-off in our balance of payments. Added to these economic factors, we have industrial relations at their worst and a deterioration in law and order. Will Mr Freeman detail his arguments on the positive side to substantiate his opinion.— Yours, etc.,

T. R. RICHARDS. December 24, 1979.
