Overhaul of power cable completed

PA Wellington The overhaul of the i n t e r-island electricity cable had been completed, said the general manager of the Electricity Divison of the Ministry of Energv (Mr K. D. McCool). When the maintenance at New Plymouth was completed in late January, all work that entailed a big loss of generating capacity would have been done. Because of the closing of the inter-island link, hydro generation was lower last week and gas

use was correspondingly higher. “The hydro storage last week was 97 per cent and spilling is still being done at Tekapo and Manapouri,” Mr McCool said. North Island storage fell from 97 to 93 per cent last week but in the South Island the level remained steady at 99 per cent. New Zealand storage fell maginally from 99 to 97 per cent of nominal full. The cost of thermal generation for the week was $552,300, compared with $404,360 for the previous week.
