PA Timaru Extra-fine and strong Merino wool offered at Timaru yesterday was firm in price compared with sales at Christchurch and Auckland last week, but fine and medium Merino wool was in buyers’ favour. Crossbred skirtings, sec-ond-shear wool, and oddments were dearer on recent sales, but Halfbred fleece and skirtings and crossbred fleece were down, according to the official report. The offering comprised 24,283 bales of greasy wool and 69 bales of scoured wool. It was typical for the time of the year, with a wide range of qualities from very fine Merino to coarse crossbred wools. The main competition came from Eastern and Western Europe, with support from the Far East and New Zealand mills. The Wool Board gave substantial support to the market by bidding for 35 per cent of the catalogue and buying or having passed to it 902 bales, 3.7 per cent of | the offering.
